1. Heart's Song by Magical Maeve

Heart's Song by Magical Maeve
Sing, heart, a happy song,
Before my soul gives way and I grovel;
Before I break from my own restraint,
And the eyes of those that keep me
See me for a failure, and fill me with ice, despising!

Bar the door behind me tight,
There’s no returning.
In memory my fears will flow
For home’s peace yearning.
Pretend I have no mother,
No doe-eyed love.
Pretend I have no other
… Oh, Christ above….
Forget that Hogwarts shelters all,
That lessons here were sweet.
Forget I plucked him lavender
Where other lovers meet.

Sing, Heart! Now, cast loudly
Some spell to take me from this fear.
Take hold of this chant and drag it,
Drag it by chorus and rhyme, ruthlessly
Before it devours me, from my naked heart.

Chant and sing, chant and sing,
Chant and sing at everything.
Chant till you close your eyes with worth.
This, your only rest on Earth.
Learn to chant until you’re blind.
And then the fear that lurks behind
Will not be seen, will not be heard.
Until you meet, unarmed, alone,
He who stops chanting and opens his eyes,
Meets death ten times before he dies.

Give me a chant, heart, to recite loudly,
Something bold and without meaning,
Like a drum, like a drum, like a drum.
Chant quickly, Heart, in a stirring voice
Before it is too late and my wand trembles.
A gay chant, careless and free, magical, blind.
Like a swinging, charmed, marching step,
Full of unthinking, blank courage,
Like a broom, shining and heavy, unfeeling, thick.

I looked at Heart, the hot tears through,
And saw that heart was crying too.
End Notes:
If you Google Richard you won't find much, but a few dollars on Amazon will give you his small output. He died in WWII.
