Today I Do Not Want To Be A Mermaid

The inky lake is no longer inviting,
A deep chill seeps through weakening bones;
The past is fading in the distant blackness,
The looming future terrifyingly unknown.

Voices lift in mournful lament,
In tune with the blood-stained clouds
Overseeing the melancholic procession,
Threatening to spill their tears on the depressed crowd.

The white marbled tomb reflects grief and sadness,
Left to be serenaded by empty echoes
That once breathed life fully,
And now in eternal misery must wallow.

The waters tremble with darkness,
No longer the safe haven they once were.
And all I can do is slip away quietly,
Chained by the depths of a new hellish anchor.
