Casualties

I am about to die,
But nothing will stand still;
Everything just rushes by,

And all I have left is my will-
Strength having deserted me-
And I am waiting for the kill.

The battle is raging swiftly
As the castle comes crashing down
But all I feel is you beside me.

And there is chaos all around,
Flashes of light that pass us by-
I do not see you fall to the grisly ground.

Grief and agony cloud the reddened sky,
And there’s the sound of rushing death-
I am about to die.

Now there’s silence, and no more breath,
Our hands entwined, even in death.
