Gelu Fatum

The frore air rode on silent winds;
The ice did frost the window panes;
And night descended, swift, unpaved,
To cloak the restless streets again.

She stared outside the frosted panes,
Her eyes blood-shot, wild, insane,
Watching cloaked streets in silent fear,
Unsure of what the Fates would bring.

Her wild eyes tracked things unseen--
A leaf, a moth, the wingéd owl--
Unsure of what the Fates would bring,
Unsure of Death, wicked and foul.

Now leaves drift, moths alight--there! a piercing howl--
As she huddles against the frozen sill,
Awaiting Death, most wicked and foul,
And time within her heart does still.

The frozen glass leaves her chilled--
Her breath so stale in moon's slivered light--
As time stands still within her heart
And fear does cloud her wild mind.

Breath by breath, she tracks moon's light,
Praying to absent stars and gods unseen;
Fear of hope clouds her wild mind--
Survival and Death and the battle between.

Praying to gods and stars unseen,
She feels the night descending swiftly,
Watching Survival battle with Death
As frore air settles the silent winds.
