Many thanks to Slian Martreb, Magical Maeve, Poultrygeist, Insecurity, and Ravensgryff for beta-reading, Britpicking, checking my insights on the life of a young professor, and generally letting me know when I am being foolish. I have to throw huge amounts of appreciation to Nat for Brit-law-picking and Andrea for second opinions -- not to mention making sure DSoP makes sense to someone who hasn't read the other brazillion words. A second thanks to the lovely and talented Slian Martreb for story-pimping, review-padding, and putting up with the RatStar! Her author page now includes "Summer Letters," a little something we co-wrote.

I have actually been active on the site lately. Mostly, though, I've been pursuing the elusive dream of real publication (with some small success! Try September 2009 editions of Reflection's Edge, Emerald Tales, and Crossed Genres, or Shadowfire Press) and haven't come back to post on Six Roses or Dumbledore's Delight. I do still intend to finish them. Sometime. Honest.

Marauders to the End- Year One by armagod679

Rated: 6th-7th Years •
Summary: This is the story of the rat, the stag, the werewolf, and the dog. They met by fate and were bound by a secret. Hopes, fears, love, tears, great and small, Marauders all. Their years at Hogwarts will always live on in infamy, although so many people say different things. Here is the frivolous first year of the tale of Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs.

The Who-Cannons?

Author's Response: Sorry, your review came in before I got the e-mail. The typo has been fixed.

Care by Lucie Lux

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: In a time when tomorrow is never a sure thing, you take what you're given and don't ask too many questions. Marlene McKinnon died before she could begin to understand, and Sirius Black and Remus Lupin were left with realization that, even in a war, life goes on.

I hit the "Validate" button without sending your letter first -- oops! But this was lovely. My only quibble was a "4th year" that seems to have slipped past the proofreading, as you didn't do it twice. Very nice!

The Lions of Gryffindor by Equinox Chick

Rated: 3rd-5th Years • Past Featured Story
Summary: It is June 1976 and The Marauders are at the top of their game. From the outside they look to have everything. But appearances, as the saying goes, can be deceptive.

James is discovering that not everything in life is his for the taking. Sirius knows he will have to defy his formidable family. Remus lives in constant fear of his life beyond Hogwarts. As for Peter... Well, Peter is struggling to live up to his friends.

The ties of friendship are strong, but war is raging and with a dark power rising those ties will inevitably fray.

Added to the mix is an adversary called Severus Snape, some lost House Points, a prank or two and a whole lot of Lily.

This is a Marauder tale.

This is a story of what made them special.

This is a story of why it started to go wrong for The Lions of Gryffindor.

OH MY GOOD GODRIC! Lions of Gryffindor won the 2009 QSQ for Best Marauders' Era Story. Amazed and incredibly grateful to those who nominated, judged and have beta'd this fic. THANK YOU.

Yay! I'm enjoying your OCs and older people. One suggestion, though, since I clicked the wrong button and the story escaped before I could comment -- they might say "Defence" instead of "DADA," since the latter sounds an awful lot like a short-lived art movement.

Author's Response: Equally, it could be a particularly poor 80's hit by German band Trio (Da Da Da) but that would be the wrong era. Thank you for the review, VV - much appreciated. Carole

The Frosty Friend by Sly Severus

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: After a terrible fight with her sister, Lily meets up with Severus. Together they find a very creative way to kick the blues.

And here I was on a hunt for Christmassy stuff. Yay! Thanks!

Author's Response: LOL! Glad you found it. It's a little bit neglected.

Dean Thomas and the Reiver Curse by Equinox Chick

Rated: 6th-7th Years •
Summary: “Muggle-born, eh?” said the first man.

“Not sure,” said Dean. “My dad left my mum when I was a kid. I’ve got no proof he was a wizard, though.”
**

Dean Thomas’ life is a mess. While the Trio were Horcrux-hunting and the Gryffindors were reforming Dumbledore’s Army, he was on the run. Living on his wits, he paired up with Ted Tonks, only to see him killed by Death Eaters.

He spent a year away from Hogwarts dreaming of a day he could return, but as September 1st 1998 approaches, he realises he cannot go back.

There are things he needs to do and a past he needs to discover before he can move on.

** indicates a line taken from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - The Goblin's Revenge.

*ponders the advanced math of Herbology points* And where is the rest? So far my only nitpick is a homophone: "is pour over my photographs" I believe should be "pore," as "poring" is far less messy.

Author's Response: The rest isn't quite finished... but it will be, although I appreciate that isn't really good enough. There's another two-three chapters in the pipeline and I may get one up in May (beta willing) Lord! You're right about pour/pore. I was prepared to quibble international differences but I really should know better. *scurries off to change* Although, perhaps Malfoy is oozing?

The Fourth Estate by OliveOil_Med

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: After The Quibbler is banned from the school, a group of Ravenclaws answer by publishing their own secret newspaper, The Fourth Estate, and leaving copies around various points of Hogwarts for the students to read. If any of them are caught, the worst wrath possible will fall on their heads.

But that fear has done nothing to stop them.

I am OliveOil_Med of Ravenclaw, and this my story for the Term Challange, for Project Censored.

ACK! Last sentence. I suspect you meant "in the grip of sleep." Otherwise, really nice, and a whole different Hogwarts from the usual Gryffindor common room!

Author's Response: Yes, well, it wouldn't be one of my stories if it didn't have at least one typo in it. I'm glad you like it.

I like these girls.

Mandatory nitpick: "Namely because none of the Ravenclaw girls aside from Padma—Lisa, Morag, and Mandy—weren’t playing today." None weren't?

Author's Response: Yeah, I'll have to fix that. Playing the name game must have confused me some.

Twilit Woods by inspirations

Rated: 6th-7th Years • Past Featured Story
Summary:
'The sun has set now - time goes so quickly for us. I wish we had longer.’

Two people have snatched moments together most evenings, under the shadow of the setting sun. Their meetings are forbidden. Hogwarts is safe, but the school grounds? They're not.

Interesting choice of names. Dark Arts Professor # 7, perhaps, of the Dark Lord curse?

Nitpick on "I retrieved it from the floor." Forest floor? He seems to have backed out onto the lawn.

Author's Response: Ooh, I hadn't thought about the curse >.> I guess you're right, lol. I'll mend the nit-pick when I get a moment. Thank-you for reading and reviewing. :]

Pieles Pelliccia by Sainyn Swiftfoot

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: Joe Kingston, millionaire CEO, never knew what was happening under the floors of the building that housed his office...

That is, until he was taken there captive...

Hmm. An interesting response to the prompt, though I'm also seeing elements of a short story called "Chaotic" and a book titled "Nop's Trials." Coincidence? Will you be taking something of a Hansel approach to getting your protagonist out of his cage?

Author's Response: Um, I've never heard of either of those two stories you've mentioned. O_O

Well, we'll have to see how he escapes, because I myself have no idea... O_O

Thanks for the review, VV!

Wormtail on the Hogwarts Express by Equinox Chick

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: Peter Pettigrew wasn't always a traitor. He was a Marauder, a prankster and a good friend.

Peter Pettigrew wasn't always called Wormtail.

Perhaps, one change led to the other?

Disclaimer: I'm not JK Rowling but I doubt you're surprised by that revelation.

A definitely-different Marauder Era, and that's saying something. Poor Peter does get neglected. I'm glad to see the ratty prompt sparked something!

Author's Response: As you must have seen a monumental amount of MWPP fics, I'm extremely pleased you found this different. It was certainly interesting to write from his perspective as I always have difficulty seeing his as anything other than the traitorous rat. Thanks for the review. Carole xxx

Fur Better or Fur Worse by Sainyn Swiftfoot

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: Lucius Malfoy has never had to worry about money-- for his wife, for his son, or for himself. But when he loses everything he has, he is forced to do things he has never done before to ensure a good life for them...

But what happens when someone threatens to ruin everything he has worked for?

Interesting. I'm curious to see the next chapters.

You have a couple of odd turns of phrase in here: "his legs soaking in warm water, his wife and son next to him" gave me a moment's pause, as did "Shacklebolt remained unnerved." Our Kingsley is never unnerved but does seem to be rather nerveless -- a pair of words that look like they ought to mean the same thing but don't.

Author's Response: It was meant to be nerveless... *is stupid* The next few chapters are coming soon... ish, I hope.

Thanks for the review!

The Doll House Girls by youaremylifenow

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: This story is for the Written Word Challenge (Spring Term 2009).

Rose can purge her feelings. Cho can eat until she can't feel. Andromeda can starve herself until she feels nothing at all. These three girls have one thing in common. An eating disorder.

Date: 04/27/09 Title: Chapter 1: Rose Weasley - Post Hogwarts - Prologue

Only nitpick: 'You’re delusional., I told her' has a punctuation problem. It looks like you're off to a good start, and I hope you can keep this going.

Prefects Imperfect by ProfPosky

Rated: Professors •
Summary: There were things Lily wondered about. There was another prefect spending the Christmas holidays in Gryffindor Tower. How far will her curiosity take her?

Remus was minding his own business. Suddenly, Lily Evans was his buisness. How long would it stay that way?

Written as something of a gift to a mod who has had to read a mountain of marauder era in recent years.

Learning to Fly by Equinox Chick

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: Severus Snape fell off his broom the first time he tried to fly. He had no natural talent, not like the loathsome Potter, and couldn't really see the point at all in Quidditch.

But then he saw Lily watching a certain Chaser play and suddenly flying becomes very important.

I am not JK Rowling and I know nothing about flying on a broomstick. This is all made up.

Thank you Natalie (thelastolympian) for beta'ing this story in its original form a whole year ago.

I should hand you plotbunnies more often, clearly! Nice work. Our favorite Potions Master seems the stubborn sort, doesn't he, and it tends to make him more interesting to write than those who would take a good dose of mud as a sign. (Argh. Speaking of signs, it just occurred to me that Sybil Trelawney had to take a first flying lesson too. Wonder what that looked like? Pesky bunnies.)

Author's Response: Oh, fabulous to see you here, VV. I think this is the second time I've take crit and turned it into a story. I'm glad you enjoyed the story; it has been hanging around for a while. I meant to post it on the old Potion Master's birthday, but I forgot. poor Snivelly, so often overlooked. Thanks again for reading and reviewing ~Carole~
