This poem was written for a challenge on the Poetry Anyone forum on the MNFF beta boards. The challenge asked us to review and be inspired by a poem already on the archives. I chose I Am Alive by the opaleye (Julia). The lines in italics are taken from Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows, The Forest Again

As They Watch


She hugs her arms
Across her chest.
Hair like a shroud,
Covering her face.
Whispering her lines,

'You’ve been so brave.’

He watches on.
Eyes fixed,
Shoulders stiff,
Unable to aid.
Murmuring his part,

‘We are ... so proud of you.'

They can scarcely bear,
The task ahead.
But both hold fast,
Although they know their words
Will urge him on to death.

‘Until the very end.’

He trudges unseen,
Towards the close.
Lifting the Snitch,
He takes an aching breath,
And plants a kiss.

‘I am about to die.’
