The Recalcitrant Child by Equinox Chick
Author's Notes:
Sable and gules are heraldry terms meaning black and red.
The first poem was written for the Poetry Anyone? Tarmalane Challenge. I used these lines as inspiration.

Your absence has gone through me
Like thread through a needle.
Everything I do is stitched with its color.

~II~

As I stitched a name
blazoned in sable,
you kicked. Blood dropped
from a finger pricked, gules
rosettes staining weft.
The canvas of your life
began with insurgence,
your limbs bursting with
maverick energy.

And I could not unpick each stitch
with my fine needle and dying
eyes, so fire scorched
away the shame.
The threads were cut -as surely
ripped as the umbilicus of that
most recalcitrant child.
Charred by Equinox Chick
This poem was written for the 2013 Poetry OWL Class. Here are Sirius's thoughts on the Black tapestry.

A tapestry unfolds our
‘proud’ heritage -
a heraldry of death
in blazoned glory
and needle-pricked blood.
But hatred frays through
each silken thread,
leaving my mood blacker
than that bestowed name.

With fingertips as faint
as fairy wings, I trace
each fragmented filament,
yearning to press charred
holes back into
existence.

She is gone. And yet
the scream of her remains,
regaling all (who cannot
help but listen)
to the temper,
the recalcitrance,
and the desperate tears,
that ripped me from her.
End Notes:
I set these two poems together because they need to be read side by side. :) Hope you enjoyed them.
