The Fat Friar’s Song

I walked the paths of Hogwarts,
In Hufflepuff’s own fell,
And there I saw a pretty maid,
She said her name was Nell.

She sat upon a tree branch,
And smiled up at the sky,
And yet there was a glistening tear,
Falling from her eye.

I asked her of her problems,
To fix them if I could,
For sadness should not fill the girl
Who’s sitting in that wood.

She said that life was troubled,
Her friendship was a curse,
She told me to turn and walk away,
She’d only make life worse.

I knew I wouldn’t leave her,
I sat her by my side,
And asked her to reveal her pain,
Her trust in me confide.

She told me of her husband,
A wizard of repute,
Who used his own dark magic skills,
To settle all dispute.

I sat in shock and listened,
She told me of her tale,
How she fell for a young mortal man,
But her love was doomed to fail.

Her husband, he got jealous,
And cast his evil spell,
And now there was a curse upon
The beauty I called Nell.

From dawn to dusk the curse took place,
And turned her to a dove,
But in the darkest hours of night,
Her human form is love.

I realised then I could not leave,
The curse had caught me too,
My heart was hers and from that day on,
I lived only to pursue.

For eight long years I cared for her,
In daylight as a bird,
Until one night she told me that my
Doting was absurd.

That day I joined the friary,
Locked away to self-reflect,
I knew that though I loved her it was
My heart I should protect.

And so it was for many years,
I loved her from afar,
Until my death I lived my curse,
I wore it like a scar.

But on my death, I saw her face,
I knew I’d never be free,
So I wonder round these Hogwarts Halls,
Wishing she were with me.
