I am a 29 year-old college professor at a little university in the South. This semester, however, in addition to my usual freshman English classes, I'm teaching two sections on the Harry Potter series as literature. Seriously! Unfortunately, I spend a lot of the the time I'm supposed to be grading papers reading fanfic instead, and I've been writing it for about five years now. In fact, my chaptered fic, "Of Christmas Past," was the first story I wrote and it's still not finished...I'll finish eventually though, I promise! It was on hiatus for a while, but I've started it up again, so it might actually be finished this year.

"Of Christmas Past" was also nominated for the Best Cannon Romance Quicksilver Quill Award for 2009! I'm so excited! I mean, there are over three thousand stories in Romance, and at least fifteen hundred of those are cannon! And I was nominated twice! I don't even mind if I don't win, just to be nominated was an honor. Anyway, good luck to everyone else who was nominated!

Speaking of "Of Christmas Past," I'm very very sorry that it's taking me so long to update it. I keep having problems, and then encountering massive writer's block. But I will finish it eventually, even if it takes me five years. Hopefully it won't, but I won't abandon the story.

If you want to read these in chronological order, they are as follows:

1. "Langlock" - set during James and Lily's time
2. "Chasing Away the Dark" - Ginny's POV during the middle of OotP
3. " Among the Ranks of Heroes" - set right after Sirius' death in OotP
4. "Comforter and Comforted" - set a few days after Sirius' death in OotP
5. "The Monster ON Harry's Chest" - set in the middle of HBP
6. "Twice Lost" - set near the end of HBP
7. "Of Christmas Past" - originally set directly after HBP, but became Alternate Universe after DH came out. So, it's set during DH, but isn't totally cannon, since a few major details changed in DH.
8. "The Queen of May" - technically set during DH, but is mostly a flashback to Snape's childhood.
9. "Falling into Darkness" - set during DH
10. "The Tree by the Lake" - technically set right after the Battle of Hogwarts in DH, but is mostly flashbacks.

Very cute, I think you did a good job. I like the way Hermione stays true to character in being annoyed and thinking Krum isn't that good looking, but you still manage to get her to like him! It's great. Excellent job.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I\'m glad you thought Hermione was in character, she\'s my favourite! Thanks again! ~megan~

Immortal by Masked One

Very good, I like the way you make the goddess into a witch. Makes the whole thing believable, at least in Harry's world. And it makes perfect sense for Tom to find her on his quest for immortality. You write well tool. Excellent!

How Ironic, Mr. Malfoy by Schmerg_The_Impaler

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •

Very nice. Well written, and I think you captured Lucius' character perfectly. Nice touch with the snakes.

Author's Response: Thanks! Lucius is one of my favourite characters, and since my only fic featuring him is that crazy little poem, I wanted to write something that features a less silly version of him.

Sleep by Fabula_propono

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: They were evil. They were cruel. They were violent and sadistic and barely human. But it was that 'barely' part that people tended to overlook. And the fact that not all Slytherins flew the same flag for the same reasons...

The first installment of a one-shot series into the minds and hearts of the most notorious Slytherins of the Harry Potter series.

VERY good. I almost feel sorry for Lucius, and I thought the scene with baby Draco was especially touching. The part wiith Draco crying himself to sleep after he cast a silencing spell was good too. You make them human, though not quite likeable. An excellent job, and well written. I look forward to reading more of your stuff.

Aw!!!! How sweet! I loved it! It was exactly what Sirius and Rosmerta needed, especially after denying themselves so long in Semi-Charmed. I love your work! Keep it up!

Author's Response: Thank you! Sirius has been denied for a dozen years in the next story. Sigh. I hope you enjoy it too! ^_^

Far Away, for Far too Long by Kerichi

Wonderful, wonderful! As good as your other stories! I like the way you blended it with PoA so convincingly. It kind of brings things full circle, since that's what inspired Semi-Charmed Life. Nice touch there. Makes me want to cry when I think of how Rosmerta will lose him again in OotP.

Author's Response: Aw, you\'ve made me very happy! Thinking about Rosmerta losing him again, this time for good, made me want to cry too, so that\'s why I decided to end the stories on Flores. If I wrote anothe one, it would be AU, where Sirius was persuaded that he would be of no help caged up in Grimmauld, decided to wait until Voldemort\'s defeat before leaving the island. Rosmerta would have Maisie and her husband run the pub and \'retire\' to Flores, to manage their friends\' bar in Lajes part time and spend the rest with Sirius! A happy ending for all, at least in this alternate dimension of the Potterverse! ^_^

So She Dances by Starmaiden

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •
Summary: After the Yule Ball, Neville goes back to the Great Hall to retrieve his coat. Instead, he finds Ginny Weasley, dancing with no partner but her sadness.
Reviewer: Chaser921 Signed
Date: 02/10/07 Title: Chapter 1: So She Dances

I really like this. You have Neville almost perfectly in character, and though Ginny's a little sadder than I would have thought, she was probably feeling pretty depressed about Harry at the end of the ball, so it's definitely believable. Your writing is very good, and I enjoy reading it.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! There are so many ways you could do Ginny\'s reaction to the Ball, and depression (because of Harry) was the one this story needed. Thanks for your comments -- it\'s great to know that I wrote something worth commenting on!

Bare Bones and Marriage Beds by Vindictus Viridian

Rated: Professors •
Summary: The day after their marriage, Lucius discovers that he and Narcissa have a few too many things in common. The first night, he had discovered they had one too few.

This was written for February's endangered-relationship one-shot challenge.
Reviewer: Chaser921 Signed

Very good, though not quite what I'd expected of Lucius. I think you captured Narcissa quite well though. Well-written and enjoyable. Look forward to reading more of your work!

Author's Response: Thanks! Lucius is a strange character for me -- I\'m quite certain that under all that puff and strut and evilness we usually see there is a weakling. Catching that and still making him IC is tricky.

Through an unintentional mishap, she is tossed right into the mix with James Potter, Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, and Sirius Black. What Does It Matter? by MagEd

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: The first war with Voldemort is at it's worst, and everything is going wrong for Lily Potter. Her sister is blaming her for their parents' deaths. Her friends are dead or in danger. Nine out of ten nights, she doesn't even know where James is, if he's even alive. She can't confide in anyone. She is just about ready to give up, when suddenly she is handed new hope -- in the most unexpected way. Originally written for the New Year's Myth and Magic challenge. *one-shot*

A good story, and I like that you used Lily and James for it. Your characterization of Bridget is good, and I like that Lily doesn't realize she's a goddess until she reads it. Nice touch there.
Only problem: you have a few spelling errors you might want to fix. Regulus instead of Regulas, and "nine times out of ten nights" instead of "nine times out of the nights." But those are probably typos. Other than that, your writing's good. I looke forward to reading more of it.

Author's Response: Thanks for pointing out the typos, that always helps. I\'m glad you liked it, thanks for the review.

John Doe and the Wizards' Society by hallie_p

But five years later John still can't remember a thing. So when a stranger shows up with tales of magic and wizards, and a wand like John had the night he appeared in Burwell, John is willing to forget the eerie feelings this man invokes with the hope of finally remembering who he is.

Methinks I Was Enamoured by Vindictus Viridian

Rated: 3rd-5th Years •
Summary: The Dumbledore brothers have a colourful history. One is the scholar, the hero, and the Headmaster we all know. The other... Well, there's that story about the goat.

A little Valentine for the Ravenclaws. Warning: this does contain the goat.
Reviewer: Chaser921 Signed

That was fantastic! I really like the story you came up with, particularly the way you keep Alberforth from being a pervert, like it usually sounds. Adding in Headmaster Black and Lockhart was a nice touch too, especially Lockhart's resemblance to his descendante. And the Shakespeare! Wonderful! Particularly since A Midsummer Night's Dream is my favorite. Very enjoyable.

Author's Response: *giggle* I had a perfectly indecent amount of fun writing this. Poor Aberforth; he probably has suffered greatly from his brother\'s tendency to casually mention the improper charms on a goat. Montmorency Lockhart was a blast too. Thanks for the review!

Nothing Else by KASK

Rated: 1st-2nd Years •

Lovely! A wonderful Dramione story! And you've done well with all the characters, not just the main two. I especially like your characterization of Ginny, she's the best!

Author's Response: Thanks. I found Ginny was rather fun to write. I have begun writing a Harry/Ginny story in the same universe. =] ~Ritta

This is a good start; You've got the characters down pretty well. I like the idea that you've made Andromeda a bit of a bookworm, and the fact that it's her knowledge that shows her what her family's really like. I'm looking forward to reading more!

Author's Response: Thanks so much! I really like exploring this character since there really is that much out there about her! Hope you enjoy chapter 2!

I think Ginny's rant was in cannon. I can totally see her doing that to knock some sense into him. She kind of did that in OotP when she told him what a prat he was for not asking about being possessed and stuff. She tends to know when he needs to be yelled at and when he doesn't, and I think he probably needed to be yelled at here to make him think more about keeping himself safe.
Good job! You write well.

Author's Response: Aw, thanks! I\'m glad you enjoyed the story, and think that I wrote Ginny in canon! :)
